In today's understanding, the color woodcut is firmly linked to the art of Expressionism. The pioneers of the Art Nouveau generation, on the other hand, who adopted the medium from Japanese art around the turn of the century and rediscovered it for themselves, are hardly noticed. In the spring of 2021, this exhibition took place at the Kunstverein Rüsselsheim, which is dedicated to »the unknown«.
Three private collectors generously opened their collections as part of this exhibition. Largely forgotten artists who are hardly known to the public were shown. The elegant and simple naturalism of the epoch is given a new stage.
