Under the pseudonym 01001011101101.org, artists Eva and Franco Mattes are among the pioneers of the net art movement and are known for their subversion of public media. Their art deals with the ethical and political questions that arise from the rise of the Internet.
The works on show at the Frankfurter Kunstverein question the power of global digital corporations. The dissemination of a flood of digital images and information raises the need for globally applicable rules: the question of the verifiability of content in social media, of who disseminates or withholds what information and the associated political repercussions, to the rights and working conditions of the countless “content moderators” who for months delete content promoting violence and pornography and are thus exposed to it without any filters.
