Mathias Weis (born 1955) paints representationally, in larger conceptual series. The exhibition "Nestbau - Mobilien / Offenbacher Version" is about homes in the outskirts of the city and urban life. He dedicates himself to the architecture in the so-called “Bacon Belt” of the cities. First with the camera, then with the brush, he captures what he sees. In doing so, Weis reproduces a seemingly desperate search for individuality, which, however, given the similarity of these settlements, is an illusion. In this way, a panopticon of building owner self-realization is created, regulated by the norms of building law. Everyone and no one is at home here. Mathias Weis studied painting and philosophy in Kassel.
