Against the background of its prominent collections of outstanding works of applied art, it strives to shed light on the obscure and create relationships between the events and stories revolving around things of the concluded past, the emerging present and the immanent future. The changing exhibitions tell of cultural values and evolving life circumstances given shape and expression with new forms.

With its new opening in April 2013, following structural alterations and its return to its original architectural state, the Museum Angewandte Kunst is now conceived as a space of possibility, a realm of sensory thought and experience, a platform for research, dialogue and negotiation, conversation, cooperation and participation. The concern here is with perspectives and strategies related to the variant forms of design embedded in what we refer to as our societal context, our lives.
