“Back to 1410” takes visitors on an interactive journey through the digital world. The exhibition is designed as a game starting with a time travel to a medieval-style town. Unfortunately, a leap of over 600 years is too much for the time machine, all its energy is used up. For the return journey the battery must be recharged! The game companion, a friendly rat, tasks visitors with exploring the city, mastering challenges, solving puzzles, collecting valuable badges and energy for the time machine.
Time travelers help the master builder construct a castle with AI, work as influencers at the blacksmith's, care for a horse, and work together to extinguish a fire. They receive badges for completed tasks. The earned badges correspond to different areas of media literacy: data protection, advertising and spam, self-efficacy and cooperation, influencing, social communication, research and fake news, self-expression, programming, and in-app purchases. With a game card players can check their progress: Which tasks have already been solved? How many badges have been collected. At the end of the exhibition visit, the badges are used to fuel the time machine for the journey back to the present.
