SUBURBIA. Living the dream - rethinking the house crisis

21 March - 18 Octobre 2026
Deutsches Architekturmuseum

Lush lawns, blue swimming pools, double garages: Suburbia delves into the (visual) worlds of American suburbia – politics, architecture, pop culture and advertising have shaped desires and realities. The exhibition highlights these tensions and simultaneously illustrates the boom in single-family homes in Germany after 1945 with home stories from the magazine “Schöner Wohnen”. Visitors can flip through them in a library. But what does the future hold? The suburbs are synonymous with long tra£c jams, enormous land consumption, and traditional family models. Suburbia sparks debate: does the single-family home oŽer a solution to the housing crisis?
