A banqueting hall with Ionic columns, cheap chandeliers, large round tables with cream tablecloths, and chairs adorned with matching slipcovers. It is both the day after and the morning before. It is that undefinable interim between events—the time when anything and everything can happen.
Tohé Commaret presents various generations navigating between different realities, cultures, and the margins of society. The protagonists act in a self-determined and self-confident manner, yet at the same time they are vigilant, unsettled, and questioning. Their subjective perspectives structure the narratives and guide us through an unfamiliar and charged, almost melancholic present. This results in seemingly generic visual worlds with dense scenes about belonging, identity, and class.
As the winner of the 2026 PONTOPREIS MMK, Tohé Commaret (b. 1992 in Vitry-sur-Seine, France) has created a new film for ZOLLAMTMMK for her first institutional solo exhibition. The PONTOPREIS MMK is awarded every two years by the Jürgen Ponto-Stiftung in collaboration with the MUSEUMMMKFÜR MODERNE KUNST.
