Gintarė Sokelytė / Sonja Yakovleva

3 May - 4 August 2024
Frankfurter Kunstverein

The Frankfurter Kunstverein presents a double exhibition from 3 May to 4 August 2024, featuring the emerging Frankfurt artists Sonja Yakovleva and Gintarė Sokelytė. In their radical approach, they stage the themes of today’s generation as sensually perceptible experiential spaces.

Gintarė Sokelytė draws and paints, but is also a sculptor and filmmaker. The body is the starting point of her investigation. In her site-specific immersive installations, the body is both the instrument through which the self experiences the world and its own existence and the connecting surface to the soul and the emotions. Gintarė Sokelytė (*1986, Kėdainiai, LT) lives and works in Frankfurt am Main (DE). In 2023, she completed her studies at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main (DE).

For years, Sonja Yakovleva has been creating monumental paper cuts featuring themes that address the feminine and feminist aspects as societal and political subjects. She combines sex-positive feminism, motifs from fairy tales and mythologies, along with pop culture, into extravagant visual compositions. Sonja Yakovleva (*1989, Potsdam, DE) lives and works in Frankfurt am Main (DE). She studied at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach and the Athens School of Fine Arts (GR).
