"Made in Hesse" - Global Industrial Histories

5 Septembre 2024 - 16 February 2025
Haus der Stadtgeschichte Offenbach am Main

The special exhibition shows industrial history through products, brands and ideas that found their way from Hesse into an increasingly globalized world. Small and large stories about spy cameras from Wetzlar, world-famous mineral water and international research networks provide new perspectives on the region from the time of the beginning of industrialization around 1800 to the present day.

It tells the story of the development of Hessian inventions and companies under the auspices of global changes. It's not just about success stories. Strong competition and price pressure meant that many successful products from Hesse soon became insignificant again. Colonial exploitation helped some companies become rich. A lack of resources and isolation policies as a result of the world wars cut off other companies from the world market.

"Made in Hessen" is a joint project between four Hessian museums, the Hessian Museum Association and the Hessian Economic Archives.
